Why wear vintage? Ask this question to any number of stylish people, and you will receive hundreds of different answers. Is it the knowledge that the dress you are wearing has a history, or that a particular vest is unique and singular? For some, thrifting and vintage shopping are all about the chase; the time spend prowling the racks at charity shops and digging in musty flea market bins.
I am definitely a gung-ho vintager. The friendly prices, the rush of discovering an amazing piece... I think some call it love. On any given weekend, I can be found scrounging around vintage and thrift stores. However, for those people for whom the idea of pawing through old clothes, shoes and accessories is slightly appalling, there are some amazing websites which sell some rather nifty vintage pieces. The perfect decades old piece, minus the decades of hunting and sorting around.
This eBay store is actually owned by American Apparel, but you wont find ethically mass-produced tee shirts here. Wares include dresses from the sixties, eighties blazers and vintage pixie boots, among numerous other listings. Also for sale are American Apparel test runs and items which cannot be purchased in-stores. Most items start off at incredibly low prices, usually below $10.00, perfect for our recession-nipped wallets.
I'm not going to lie, I occasionally find myself judging things based solely on first impressions. So, when I first came across this online vintage boutique, I instantly liked what i saw. The visually pleasing website sells clothing, accessories and vintage eyewear, plus some new items are thrown in to the mix. Clear, well-styled photographs of each of the pieces only add to the "me likey" factor.

Vintage = such a gift.
x.
vintage is truly the besttt.
i love the thought that what i'm wearing has a history too, that there's a past to your clothes, that they might have seen great and glorious things before you were even born.
and thanks for the links, although i love to trawl through the stores looking for clothes (skirts and jackets are my favourite) the internet is a really good time saver when it comes to vintage.
hope you are well and have had a good day!

ps. i thought of another answer:
why wear vintage?
because it's fabulous.
I love vintage because every piece is unique so you can't find another girl the same dress or whatever like you.
I can't wait to go to California this summer!
Oh I never really wear vintage because it can be incredibly expensive, but you might have changed my mind by introducing me to such great vintage shops! :)
Hope you are well dear! <3

I love it... 'gung-ho vintager'! I'm such a sucker it, and I'm definitely going to check out Nasty Gal.

thanks for sharing california select!
excellent - I love nasty gal
lovely post on vintage. I <3 both the ebay sellers (Nasty Gal used to be ebay before they got to big and switched to online boutiqe)
for me, most of the time I wear vintage because it has that lovely worn in look, as well as the overall quality and design in the garment is better. there were no small children in china making my blazers if you catch my drift.
Both places are too pricey for me... I prefer shopping in thrift stores or on Etsy. And Ebay only if it's a good deal. And I think the styling/models/photos play a hugeeee role in the success of the store... it makes them look so much better than when they probably found it. :)
Vintage=Love
Brilliant post.
I wear vintage for the authentic worn-in feel that the high street can't replicate much as they try. So AA owns California Select. That explains the AA-looking photos :)
i linked you, as you told me:)
